The Recording Process Explained
The Cottage Studio offers a practical collection of recording equipment, monitoring systems, microphones, instruments and amplifiers for use during your stay.
A Studio You Can Settle Into
From Setup to Takeaway Tracks
Recording at The Cottage Studio is designed to be straightforward, collaborative and focused on your music. Grace will prepare the recording system, set up the microphones and oversee your agreed sessions, allowing the band to concentrate on performing.
Before Your Session
Grace will speak with the band before your visit to discuss the music you intend to record, your preferred schedule and the equipment required.
This conversation will cover:
The number and type of songs you plan to record
The instruments and amplifiers required
The studio equipment you would like to use
Any equipment the band intends to bring
The proposed microphone and recording setup
Your priorities for the available studio time
Planning these details in advance helps ensure that the space is prepared and your recording time is used effectively.
Recording Setup
The studio is centred around a Tascam 2400 mixing console, connected by USB to an Apple MacBook Pro running Logic Pro.
During the agreed recording hours, Grace will connect the computer, prepare the recording session and position the required microphones. The mixing console and the equipment shown on our Kit List page are available for use throughout each booked studio day.
Recording Your Music
Once the equipment has been prepared and levels have been checked, Grace will record the band according to the agreed session plan.
The setup can support a range of approaches, from individual instrument and vocal performances to full-band tracking. The precise recording method will depend on your music, available time and preferred way of working.
Each booked day includes up to eight hours of recording, normally between 10am and 6pm.
Playback and Basic Mixing
Recordings can be reviewed during the session, allowing the band to assess performances and decide whether further takes are required.
After recording, a basic mix of each completed song will be prepared. This provides a useful version for listening, reviewing and sharing after your stay.
Detailed editing, advanced mixing or mastering is not included unless agreed separately.
Taking Your Recordings Home
At the end of the session, you will receive:
A basic mix of each recorded song
The individual tracks from the recording session
At the end of every stay we will supply new flash drive with all your songs and tracks loaded onto the drive.
Prepare for Your Session
